Deborah Ellington
Following a career in graphic design and advertising, I discovered the satisfying process of paper collage. The medium encompasses all of my training in design, typography, color, contrast and simplifying complex shapes into a new form.
I repurpose book pages which I paint. The painted pages of text or poetry (as well as plain paper) build the color palette I use to create my collages. Sometimes, I use typography to indicate shadow and depth. Each color is hand-cut and assembled; the cut layers can be felt with your fingertip. And, often I'll slip in a word or a line of text that relates to the image - perhaps you'll discover some as you look through my images.
